Freewrite T
So. I got a Freewrite Traveller. I'm writing this on the device at the moment. Mind you, I'll be editing it on a full-fledged laptop later. This only has drafting capabilities, and I must say—it's a tad odd looking at a screen where every word I spell incorrectly isn't underlined immediately in red for a quick fix. I know I'm spelling some of these words wrong, but I don't know the correct spelling. Guess my second-grade spelling bee training didn't hold within my memory as much as I would have liked. Welp.
The reasons I got one of these devices are pretty much what you might expect. It really boils down to screentime exposure throughout the day. I'm in front of a computer a lot for my job all day, I come home, watch Bluey with my daughter, watch Man vs. Bee with my wife, and it all tallies up to a lot of screentime. Plus, I write a lot before I go to bed. That excessive screentime was making it harder to fall asleep.
This device I'm currently writing on has a kind of screen like a Kindle. Which is real nice. No eye strain. I won't be able to use it throughout the whole process of writing my next novel because (you know) the spelling problems. Plus I think some line editing and plot consistency can only really be done in editing.
Anyhoo, this is probably going to all go on my author's website in a post nobody will read because I don't want to take out a house loan to pay for promoting what I put on KDP for funzies. But I figured we might as well do our due diligence real quick as long as we're writing.
I currently have 3 books pending.
Motley Foxwoods: I'm a huge fan of the show Blackadder—especially the third series set in Regency times (Hugh Laurie literally plays the Prince Regent). My wife also made me watch Bridgerton. I wrote about a paragraph of crossover fanfic for kicks, deleted it, then plotted out a similar concept with original characters. Put my own spin on a desperate con artist running around the ton's edges. It is not (I repeat) not a Regency romance story. It is a series of comedic crime capers set in the Regency historical period that coalesce into something resembling a coming-of-age novel.
In the Court of Her Forged Majesty: The Queen Everburn Solo Book. Book 3 of my fantasy series "The Everburn Concern." In the roughest state at the moment. Will need at least one more editing pass before it's ready.
Qyngmi Glycerine's Big Adventure!: Book 4 of "The Everburn Concern." A solo book starring everyone's favorite jester / criminal mastermind. This one is pretty much done.
A quick note about books 3 and 4 of "The Everburn Concern": You could honestly read them in either order. Heck, book 4 is going to come out before book 3 because that's the one I found my way through writing the fastest, just because of how much fun I had writing it.
Basically, Everburn is having her own adventures in one place. Qyngmi is having his own adventures in another. They're occurring concurrently on the exact same timeline. You'll need to read them both to get the full story. But the intention is if you're thinking, "I like Everburn more and I want to read her story first"—then go ahead. If you're thinking, "Qyngmi Glycerine is a dashing rogue wearing motley who commits gratuitous amounts of crime in a medieval fantasy setting and I must read his story first or I shall perish"—then go ahead.
And that's pretty much it. Going to send this off to the editing program, but this was fun. Going to write book 5 of "The Everburn Concern" on this thing. Eventually. Gotta wrap these three and publish them first.
